These pages give you help with some of the basic procedures for checking your email over the phone using Liberty SpeechMail:
If you choose to "Play" your message, the system will read the message out to you. If the message is long, it will be broken into sections. After each section, you will be asked whether you want to:
Note that you can log in and edit your preferences to change the number of sentences in a section.
When the system reaches the end of the message, it will give you the following options:
If you choose to delete a message, the system will ask you to confirm the deletion, by saying:
If you say something that the system does not recognise, or you leave it too long before replying, it may come back to you and say "Sorry, I didn't catch that". It will then repeat what options you have. You can reply at any time without waiting for the system to stop reading your options.
By logging in you can change the following preferences for your account:
| Preference | Possible Values | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Break messages after x sentences | Any number, e.g. 10 | This means that the system will insert a pause after reading out the specified number of sentences in an e-mail message, giving you a choice to continue, or finish. |
| Download x messages at a time | Any number, e.g. 10 | This means that the system will download the specified number of message headers from the server at a time, a large number will mean a longer delay when you first log in, but faster navigation of message headers, a small number will have the opposite effect. |
| Message Numbering | On / Off | Turns message numbering during message header playout on or off. |
| Message Sender | On / Off | Controls whether or not you hear the sender's name during message header playout. |
| Message Subject | On /Off | Controls whether or not you hear the subject of the message during message header playout. |
| Message Date | On / Off | Controls whether or not you hear the date the message was sent during message header playout. |
| Confirm Message Deletion | On / Off | By default the system will prompt you for confirmation before deleting a message, you can switch this off here. |
| Order of Message List | Newest / Oldest | Here you can choose whether to have your message headers listed newest or oldest first. |
