How to Access Your Email Account over the Telephone

These pages give you help with some of the basic procedures for checking your email over the phone using Liberty SpeechMail:

Accessing your Account

1. Dial the system access number (0870 870 XXXX).
2. When the system asks you for your customer number, you can either say it (as individual digits, e.g. "two three eight one one two" not "twenty-three eighty-one twelve"), or you may prefer to type it in using your touch tone telephone for security.
3. When the system asks you for your PIN, you can either say it (as for the customer number) or use your telephone keypad to type it in.
4. The system will tell you how many messages you have.
5. The system will read the header information of each message, telling you who it is from, what the subject is, and when it was sent. You have the options to:
   • "Play" the message,
   • "Reply" to the message,
   • "Delete" the message,
   • Hear the "Next" or "Previous" message header.

Listening to your messages

If you choose to "Play" your message, the system will read the message out to you. If the message is long, it will be broken into sections. After each section, you will be asked whether you want to:

• "Continue": the system will read the next section
• "Stop": the system will return to the message header list
• "Replay": the system will go back to the start of the current section
• "Start Again": the system will read the message again from the start

Note that you can log in and edit your preferences to change the number of sentences in a section.

When the system reaches the end of the message, it will give you the following options:

• "Play" the message again,
• "Delete" the message,
• "Reply" to the message, or
• Hear the "Next" or "Previous" message header.

Deleting a message

If you choose to delete a message, the system will ask you to confirm the deletion, by saying:

• "Yes": your message will be deleted, and you will return to the message header list
• "No": your message will not be deleted, and you will return to the message header list.

Replying to a message

1. If you choose to reply to a message, the system will ask you "What is your reply?"
2. You can record up to 30 seconds of message.
3. At the end of your message, the system will ask whether you want to:
   • "Review" your message: your reply will be played back to you to allow you to check it before confirming it should be sent.
   • "Confirm" sending the reply: your reply will be sent as a sound file (WAV) attachment to the person who sent you the original message.
   • "Cancel" sending the reply: you will hear the message header information again.
   • "Change message": you will have another chance to record a message.

If the system says "Sorry I didn't catch that"

If you say something that the system does not recognise, or you leave it too long before replying, it may come back to you and say "Sorry, I didn't catch that". It will then repeat what options you have. You can reply at any time without waiting for the system to stop reading your options.
